I mostly hear endgames. The argument is that you need to master what to do when there are only a few pieces on the board to be able to master what to do when there are more.

Good point. I've thought about this a lot. I believe your thoughts are inline with my own! I definitely need to improve in this sector, however its not my weakest sticking point.
