I've been wondering about how you get a rating in the egyptian chess tournaments. If anyone can give me some insight, then I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I presume the same as anywhere else in the world. You enter a tournament, play games and get a rating.

Did someone tell you there is something special you have to do to get a rating in Egypt?

Where is it that you have to go to play this tournament? I'd like to get involed with it.

No, but I haven't entered tournaments before. I'm not so used to the way things go in chess tournaments. I mean, I know how basic things go before the tournament like preparation and warm up. But the timing, the teams, the time controls...etc are kind of wonky(although I think a standard tournament has 2 hrs for both till move 41)

I would think the first thing would be to find a tournament. The website for the Egyptian Chess Federation (http://egypt.fide.com/)  seems to be out of date. All the tournament listings are from 2010.

I would write to these guys and find out what they know about upcoming tournaments and ask them who is supposed to be in charge of the website.

There is also a Facebook page for Egyptian chess too at https://www.facebook.com/egyptchessfide but it's mostly in Arabic.
