Yeah,I know there were some zillion posts on gg but Is gg = Rub It In? It has that flavor! I never use it myself but if somebody wins and says gg it feels like I'm being rubbed! LOL! Wink

I only say gg when someone beats me.

If you can't say "interesting game" and maybe say something about it (if it's worth discussing, obviously) then you might aswell not bother with an inspid "gg". It doesn't mean anything, like for instance saying RIP when someone dies. Words lose their meaning when banally abused all the time. It's a gg but it's not a great game really, you don't mean it most of the time, just hollow courtesy. No thanks.

gg no re

Comrade_Jackal

Whenever I say it, it is mostly after a few games; ggs. I mean it

If you invest this much energy getting worked up over someone typing "gg" after they've won a game, then somebody doesn't have enough to keep them busy or way overly sensitive.

Given the really cude and insulting crap that I've had people type to me before, during and after games, "gg" is pretty meaningless in comparision.

urbandictionary helpfully says

cude=cool dude

The kind of horrible people who say "gg" are the same kind of cowards who refuse rematches and perpetually check your king when they are losing. They always resign either too soon or too late, and they will resort to stalemate when they should just resign. They should all be banned.

And people who don't say "gg" are even worse!

What about the people who write 'good game'? Like full? They disgust me. Why do they feel the need to prove that they're some Einstien genius. Sometimes they write 'Good game' which is obviously just cruel, rubbing it in that they can use caps when we can't. Those foockers should all be banned. In my country, that cruelty like using capital letters would not be tolerated but here, people act like it's perfectly acceptable! I agree, we need to ban all these people.

Shara-lova

If you rub it in, you'll have greasy goolies.

"Good games" y'all! ;-)

Glorfindel_1

This is hilarious. On one side we have the kids who are taught in chess club that saying 'Good game' is necessary and not saying it is being a bad sport. Then on the other side we have a bunch of immature sounding people whining about someone who they will likely never ever see 'rubbing it in'.

Umm, ok? Really?

Don't let it ruin your day, thanks.

My rule is that you can only say gg if...

1. You lost.

OR

2. You won AND your opponent has already said gg or an equivalent expression after losing.

OR

3. The game ended in a tie AND your opponent did not run out of time or stalemate you.

OR

4. The game ended in a tie AND your opponent ran out of time or stalemated you, but said gg or an equivalent expression after running out of time or stalemating you.

Its a gesture of sportsmanship.  Dont over analyze it.

Dystrophy

I only say it when I've  been entertained by a game that I legitimately thought was good, which is usually really hard fought

If they can stalemate and do so then there obviously wasn't any reason to resign. But I can imagine that it hurts, drawing in a won position because you made a huge blunder by allowing the stalemate.
