Golf, Chess correllation

Sort:
Thompson

I was just wondering how the rating systems of golf and chess compare to one another. I have put down some rough coordinates for a graph of the two rating systems

hcp, elo

-8 ~2800 Tiger, Anand

-7 2700

0 2000

10 1700

20 1400

28 1200

Too Rubbish to get a handicap   <800

I'm not quite sure of where exactly some of the points should be, but it is quite clear it is probably a logarithmic scale. Feel free to point out where you think the equivalent rating points should be.

I'll take a mulligan.

lets say  our tournament (par for the course) is 72.

2000 rating are scratch golfers (pros). ---  par 72 or less

1801 - 1999           ----------            73 - 80

1700 - 1800             ---------           81 - 90

1600 - 1799           ------------          91 - 100

1500 - 1600           -----------          101 - 115

0000 - 1499       ------------             115 - into oblivion

U get the picture .  These #'s are unrealistic,  ( then again my golf scores are all over the place too)  like u said we'll need an algorythm man involved. also no mulligans.......

You get booted IF:

1. you dont start on time.

2. not moving within time parameters.

3. going on vacation.

4. beating a person with a higher rating than you

5.looking at a book or computer

6."THINKING" about looking at a book or computer

7. asking for help

8. going to other sites for game info etc.

9. the captain is always right

10. "IF" the captain is wrong refer to rule #9

11............if your not satisfied with anything!

I'm happy to say, there is some good news we wont have to negotiate wind or water.   have a pleasant tourny.

It might be more comparable using percentages:

Roughly 0.5% of golfers are scratch. So, to match the top 0.5%, you're looking at a FIDE rating of about 2300, which is roughly FIDE Master (FM) level.

Food for thought.
