Hello, I was playing on my first over the board tournament and since most of my opponents were like 1100, they were playing it. Since I play the caro against e4, I just assumed I could do the same thing but lost against it while playing the slav. should I go traditionally with the declined or keep playing slav?

It's likely you may get some snotty comment from some players wrt to "not worry about opening play at your current level..." I disagree...study what you enjoy is should be the watchword of amateur chess players...Nevertheless, we all tend to put too much emphasis on opening study.

I would say, choose the Slav. One reason is after 1c4 you can play 1...c6 White can answer with 2d4, allowing you to play 2...d5. After 1c4 c6 2e4 d5, you get an opening (The Panov) that can arise from 1e4 and 1c4. In other words, you've cut down on your "homework"...

But your results will not have been because of your opening choice ;-)

you could allways play it the classical way or play Nf6 and go for more dynamic games (study these openings)
