Good, solid chess program needed

Hi chessers,

I am searching for a good, solid chess program which is more realistic in playing style than my Chessmaster (Grandmaster Edition). In CM even on rating around 1000 the opponnents play too good to be realistic (e.g. time management, thinking too far ahead etc.).

Is LucasChess more realistic in approach ?

Thanx in advance for recommendations :-)

I've played LucasChess a little and Chessmaster 10 quite a bit. With the little experience I have with LucasChess I'd say its play is more realistic than Chessmaster. The various Chessmaster characters I've played have different styles but always seem to play well, drop a piece, then play well again. LucasChess drops pieces also but I swear I've quite often seen it just make bad positional or strategic moves. There's a control in LucasChess that allows you to have it play much better, better, equal, worse, or much worse than you. It appears to work well but, again, my experience is limited. Those modes are handy when you want to practice certain openings/positions/endgames. You can start out with a slightly stupid engine to get a feel for the main lines then turn up its brains to get a real test.

edit: and it's free so you're only out a little time if you don't like it.
