If the area you are in has a lot of FIDE rated events and players with established ratings, then it can be easy. Some areas have very few of either and require travel to have the opportunity to get a rating.
In my last FIDE rated event, none of my opponents had established FIDE ratings yet (or one did but I lost that game), so I didn't get rated.
You need to play in a FIDE rated tournament. At least three of the opponents you are paired against must already be FIDE rated. You must score at least one point against those three players. After calculation, your resulting rating must be 1000 or higher.
ALL FOUR of those criteria must be satisfied before you can be rated by FIDE.
So no, "anyone that plays in a fide rated tournament" will not necessarily gain a FIDE rating.
those stds are so low anyone older than 3 can get a fide rating pretending there is difficulty in getting those stds is BS
I really don't know about how strong you have to be in the US to get a rating, but I got to tell you that in India, it is a pretty daunting task for the average player. Congrats to the OP!
