Grabbing the Queen for Queening

Yes, but is against the rules. Kasparov should have put the Queen in the square while his own clock was running. Karpov was only being sarcastic.

Jimmykay

Of course Karpov should have received the two minutes. Kasparov violated the rules by stopping his clock before completing his move. This is not a checkers game, where you say "queen me". It is the player's responsibility to do this themself.

Kasparov was trying to get into Karpov's head.

SilentKnighte5

I'm going to start grabbing the spare queen after move 1 since there seem to be so many whiners in here.

Jimmykay

Kasparov should have stopped both clocks.

I do not know what you mean "According to that story, Kasparov didn't stop his clock"

...are you reading a different version of the story somewhere?

Possibly, explain how stopping both clocks would have worked.  If you press both, then time stops on both instead of coming back to Kasparov's clock?

My understanding is that you stop your clock, and your opponent's clock starts.  Pressing both would either be impossible or come back to starting Kasparov's.

Thanks for playing though, try a new quarter.

Apparently you have never played over-the-board. Yes, you are able to stop both clocks. When there is something that needs the arbiter, stopping both clocks is the RULE.

Thank you for playing, as well. Try a new quarter.

Forget about it, Jimmy. I'm starting to think he's trolling you. Nobody can be so hard.

Not sure. I think he is just a teen who has never played OTB, and got sarcastic when he thought he was right. Male teens think every online  conversation is a battle that must be won, then finished of with a sarcastic comment. Sometimes, it blows up in their face.

What will happen next, is he will find something else to attack me about, to try to save face. Happens all the time.

If you win a strawman, then the other person is a troll?  Interesting logic.

Firstly, you won nothing. Conversation is not a battle. Secondly, you were wrong. It is standard in OTB to stop both clocks. You were ignorant of this because, obviously, you have never played over-the-board.

Jimmykay

Nice recovery attempt. You made fun of me for thinking that one can stop both clocks at the same time, then said "Thank you for playing, as well. Try a new quarter."

You were wrong. You are too stupid or too wrapped up in your own echo chamber to realize that you have been refuted.

You are immune to logical argument, and have selective tunnel vision.  You are also in love with your delusions.

I am untracking. You can get in the last word. I know how important that is to immature little twerps like you.

I still don't see how Kasparov made a wrong and 2 minutes shouldn't have been added to Karpov's clock.

According to the rules, you must put a queen in the place of the promoted pawn while your clock is running. If there isn't a queen available, you stop the clocks until it is. Kaspy didn't follow the correct procedure and he was punished (according to the rules). Very simple indeed.

Pulpofeira

You may stop the clocks. What sure you can't do is forget about the queen and stop only your own clock. Is against the rules. This is out of discussion.

Pulpofeira

Kaspy didn't make his move. The promotion includes putting the new piece in the place of the promoted pawn. But it doesn't matter, I'm done with this.

Thanks, Kay.

Pulpofeira

Karpov didn't make an illegal move. His king was not in check since there wasn't any queen in the square of promotion. Who cares, maybe the arbiter was drunk.

What does that mean?  So what?  If that is true, so what?  I stated an opinion.  That makes someone pedantic?  I am sorry, you are making no sense.  If you don't like what I have to say, you are welcome take your things and leave (does that sound better?).

The comment about taking your toys and leaving the sandbox is used.  Maybe you don't know this.

Whoever started this riduculous flame war in the first place is the troller. Period.

So what are you "weeing" on? xD

MNMSkyBlue

Ok man. I have no desire to be the source of a flame war.

Wait, who is Nakamura and Stockfish? As I recall, Nakamura was the last name of a guy in one of the Percy Jackson books. I may be wrong.
