No, maybe some players do not like to chat during the game but rather focus on the moves and positions.
They may not notice either, if they have many games and just focus on the board.
It might be as simple as low IT skills or lack of english skills.
Ahh, cmon! foscusing on moves before the game starts! If saying hello is going to disrupt your entire game plan, then maybe you should try checkers. But i do see your point!

if i say hello and they don't respond immediately then i usually launch into a full tirade of swear words in every language i know so that i can punish them for the massive injustice they have done to me. that will show them!!
If you greet your opponent with a simple hello in the chat box,( from the United States ) and he does not respond, do you take that personal? Is'nt that like refusing a handshake?
