Halloween Gambit

Hello everyone! I just learned this really cool gambit called the Halloween Gambit. I tried it in a couple casual otb games and it worked well. Would you recommend using this in 1500 tournament play at 45/5 time control?

even though it is more or less safe to play because at clublevel it is hard to refute. I would go for more sound opponent with a higher change of winning. giving up a knight is a lot. you give your opponent knight odds...

but depends if you want to win the tournament or just have fun. I have only once played a gambit at a tournament.

For serious players it is not good. Here you lose a knight. It has 3points.

From this you can win against 1700 only.

Seriously, I am considering to play the Halloween Gambit tomorrow, against a player rated 2030, around 130 rating points more than me. But probably I will just stick to the ruy lopez.

lol i beat a national master with it. but it was in blitz of course and i have memorized a ton of computer lines of course i don't find the some of the lines here is the line the NM fell for.

also it has worked well against plenty of players around that rating. i have a very good score with the halloween gambit in blitz. i wouldn't try it in a classical time control against them though

what the hell kind of game was that lol. white was absolutely fine and then proceeded to try and find the quickest way to lose.

It is absolutely unacceptable for serious tournament play because Black can give back the piece with at least equality.  Only if Black tries to hang onto the piece to 'prove' something does White have chances.

Really? I didn't think we were that inflated here.  I'm 2050ish in real life.

ratings aren't really inflated they might be deflated for alot of people (but not me i'm about even) unless you are referring to correspondence. although i'm mainly referring to blitz and it amazes me to no end how nobody has seen it. i know an international master who has never even heard of it until i showed him. i even tried it once in an otb game against a 1450 CFC and had a chance for a good position after he sacked a piece back but for two pawns. i missed something really obvious and ended up losing.lol

ChezBoy

I want to play it here to practice and see if I feel comfortable with it to maybe use in my tournament, but nobody seems to play the four knights game. Is there a way I can find an opponent who will play the four knights?
