Have daily chess apponents become tougher recently?

Hi, I have recently been struggling in daily chess and dropped below 1700 for the 1st time in 2 years or more. having reached 1812 just a few months ago.
I feel as if lower rated opponents are much tougher than they used to be ( e.g 1000-1400 rating range). Anybody else experiencing this? is this maybe a result of a lot of new members post queens gambit, with a tougher pool of players or am I becoming senile lol?
