I lost 100 rating points what should i do take a break? Quit?

hhnngg1

heh heh. I just did the same by losing 13 games in a row when trying to play on my phone.

It sucks to lose them, but it's fun to get 'em back!

make up your own mind

seanysean2

thats so sad, you'll get em' if you play me

Don't listen to the trolls.

1. Go through your games, examine what you have been doing wrong in them and don't make the same mistake.

2. If you give up Chess now, why even start in the first place?

seanysean2

yup, thats what i do

I can feel your pain. Not long ago I lost 8 games here in one night. I was so upset that I deleted my account. I have come to a conclusion: when you lose 2 or 3 games in a row stop playing for a while and take a deep breath. Consider what might have gone wrong. Where you tired or were you given tough opponents?

My rating is like a yo-yo. I average around 1400 but it is half the time in the 1300s and half the time in the 1400s. But i think bad streaks and good streaks are a part of the majority of players here. Like some other poster wrote during a bad streak just go over your losses and see what the most common mistakes are. If you really want to raise your rating just do a bit of study during the week, but many find that its not worth the effort.

I looked at some of your games. One thing you might consider is not bringing out your queen so early. That got you into trouble several times.

Yeah

adumbrate

dont worry about it and come back stronger

After reviewing some of your games, 2 pieces of advice:

1. Tactics...tactics...tactics...Study tactcs, since your falling for simple tactics.

2. Follow the Opening Principles:

a. Control the center

b. Develop toward the center

c. Castle

d. Connect your rooks

You know what they say when you find something you've lost.  You're points will be the last place you look.

Jab your own eyes with ice picks and you'll  realize how trivial and meaningless chess rating points are.

Are you having fun?  Keep playing.  Is chess making you miserable?  Probably time to quit.

One thing that may be encouraging:  in my chess career (rating 1100 to 2100) every time I studied hard, changed my game, and tried to improve--my rating went DOWN.  Every time.  It takes a while to digest the new stuff.  Eventually your results will improve  but it doesn't happen right away.

It is better not to think about rating too much.  I quit for 27 years because (a) it was taking time away from school and (b) I had a 2100 rating and was afraid to lose it.  (a) was a good reason but (b) was stupid.  I've started playing in tournaments again, I may never get back to 2100 but I've really enjoyed it, and that's what counts.  (First comeback tournament, performance 1300.  Ouch!  But it got better; around 1900-2000 now.)

I have read all comments and I will not take a break nor quit, as I was just playing my worse that day. Which happens when I am tired. I have been playing ok again, but i want to get back to 900 atm 850ish. I started playing 2 months ago I think. I have had fun playing so win or loose I am happy. :)
