I've had a few games where I won by doing that. Tactics Trainer gives those problems as well.
Have you seen this type of R-P mate?

Thanks. That indicates that it does occur noticeably often, as I suspected, although it would be nice to get some complete games. Do you have any complete games in your profile with that type of mate?

When I have some time I'll sift through and see what I can find.

Thanks. I would have done it myself except you have over 1,000 games played, and only you would have an idea of where those games are.
By the way, I'm interested in any other interesting mates that occur somewhat often that chessplayers don't often know about and aren't one of the dozen or so mates that have names, so if you notice other mates with that character while going through all those games, I'd be interested in those as well, as I'm sure others would be, too.
Yeah, I've been on both ends of that mate. Found one game; here ya go. 5 mins blitz.

kkl10,
Great! Exactly what I was looking for. (Now I'm starting to see some value in playing thousands of blitz games!) It's funny that, as seems to be common, the opponent didn't see the mate coming, probably because it's somewhat uncommon so players aren't looking for it.

This is a similar sort. Rf6 would be mate.
Many thanks! Analysis of any game's outcome or side lines is fine as an example, too. In your posted game the rook wasn't supported by a pawn, though the king and pawns were in very similar positions, so it looks like a slight variation on the same general position.
This one was pretty lame, but here goes... Standard 15|10.

Pretty sure I had a similar loss, not a few months ago. I'd have to dig much deeper into the archive to find it.
A few weeks ago I won a 10-minute OTB game with a checkmate with my rook supported by my pawns when the opponent's king wandered into the "cup" of my pawns. My rook was like a lid placed on top of the cup. Actually I overlooked that mate-in-1 for one move before playing it, and after I mated my opponent he had to look at it for several seconds to confirm it was really a mate. Not long after that I came across a published game with the same type of mate. Although I have the score for the published game (posted below), I didn't write down the moves to my 10-minute game.
That coincidence has me suspecting that this is mildly common type of mating position, and I'd like to collect games with that type of mate. If you have the score or link to such a game, please post it. Tentatively I am calling this a "Gaiwan Mate," from the Japanese term "gai wan," which is a tea cup with a lid.
