Any suggestions on building up to classical play? Playing blitz for years and have never played a classical game but I want to start playing in tournaments next year. I play way to fast, it's like I'm possessed I cant help it. I usually have two minutes left in a 5 min game when my opponents close to flag. But whenever I play OTB games or 30 min games on chess.com  I get frustrated waiting for my opponent to move and I make mistakes on my turn. I try sitting on my hands but when I try to calculate as hard as I can I play worst. I'm just very inpatient but that was supposed to be the reason why I started playing chess but my nature is fighting my patience. Any advice appreciated!

Try more ten min, then build up. During your opponents move just go through every single conscience you can think of which will be the result of what you think their next moves will be.

Or, if you can't, get a book and read as you play.

Just insist and I think eventually you'll get used. Same happens with kids, they finish their 90/30 OTB games in half an hour at most and then start playing blitz like crazy, making a mess of the tournament hall. But it doesn't last forever.

thanks for the input. I tried doing 15 min games but like I said I lose more often and my rating started going down since all blitz ratings are connected on chess.com. But ok I will take that advice and just start building slowly and try to practice calculating longer.

Blitz players i believe  are good with openings through instinct and memory. Try 15 min and gradually increase with time. Give more thought and calculation mid game and no reason to hurry till pressed for time at end game...at which you are already good for being a blitz player. Good luck.

yeah try 15 minutes first and then 20 minutes etc. you are losing because longer time controls are harder. at longer time control you need to be more accurate. at blitz there are inaccuracies that you can get away because of time pressure from your opponent that they failed to see the good follow up moves. if you really plan at joining tournaments at longer time control. you really need to practice playing at longer time control because it is a different thing than blitz. solve harder tactics problems for calculation training. study endgames and strategies.

now that's some diam good advice. thank you all for your input. I agree it makes me feel like I'm a cheapo artist instead of a chess player because it isn't accuracy but just good tactics that usually wins my games even against 1900 players. thanks again awesome!
