If I am not a paying member but am playing online chess here, who can I go to for help? I've got one game where the opponent won't move any more and even though the timer for moves is 3 days, he hasn't moved in many more than that and the clock doesn't run out but adds more hours when it gets down to the teens.....How can more hours get added when he hasn't moved? I told him in chat to move or resign but no answer. How do I get rid of this game with offering a draw or reseigning?

Your opponent is probably premium.  What is likely happening is that your opponent is getting timeout protection, a premium feature. When that happens all their games, except ones in no-vacation tourneys, get paused.

In that process a minimum of 24 hours of vacation time get used up. If the player comes off vacation before the 24 hours have elapsed, the difference gets added to the time of the other games where it is their move.

interesting... i think?  i mean, is it asking too much to finish your game before you go on vacation?  "que sera sera"

Correspondence games can take months to finish.  But urgent situations in life (and also pre-planned actual vacation) must take priority over chess games.  So yes, it is sometimes too much to ask that a player finish all of their games before going on "vacation".

One, it is automatic in the OP case (most likely). Two, that is not always possible. Games can take months to complete and sometimes life intervenes.

Barring emergenxy, wouldn't the decent thing to do be to notify your opponents of your vacation? Obviously it's not necessary, but it certainly would be courteous.

Everybody gets vacation time, not just premium members. Only the paying premium members have it start automatically, though - non-premium have to log in to go to vacation time.

Offline life happens at irregular schedules, so sometimes vacation time is appropriate...but...

#1 Chess.com does allow too much of this non-playing time, and

#2 Premium members get more based on their level. This is absolutely wrong! Game play quality can be determined by how much time you take, and nobody should be able to buy an un-even time control advantage in a game with money!

Thank you. I figured if an agreement to a game is a 3 Day window between moves and if you dont make that you lose the game. Guess I was wrong.

If vacation wasn't allowed players would be unable to get away from a data device for more than x days max, whatever their fastest time control game was (because their opponent could move quickly and it could be between 3 and 6 days to make a move in a 3-day/move game).
