Sounds like a good idea. I wouldn't approve of hiding you're own, though. Would allow people to prey on lower levels. Basically 14 and 1500 just taking on 1000-1100 who don't know who they're playing.

I think it would be good if you had the option to hide your opponents rating during a game,so it take the "fear" factor of playing a higher rated opponent.All you would know is that your opponent is within the search boundries you set.That way you would play the board and not worry if your opponent is high rated that you.After the game you could see the rating of the opponent .
I would like this too. It would also help keep you from being lazy with lower rated opponents.
I don't know if I agree with hiding the rating. I don't know much about the history of chess but hasn't the player always known the opponents rating or record? We have already taken the face to face with a board away from it (playing online) which I feel should eliminate the fear factor enough. I think the original intent should be preserved as much as possible. I also believe that knowing the ratings helps to develop the lower rated player to become more confident as their skills and knowledge progress.
