Judit's retirement seemed awfully... timed. Was she really interested in a match with Yifan? I'm not sure.
Yifan may be a bit old (I know, it sounds crazy) to challenge Carlsen and co.
Carlsen was over 2700 at age 17 (!)

Yes, she probably needed to be at the level she is now 3 years ago to be challenging Carlsen?
A new generation is certainly going to push him. This post shows Elo v Age. Yifan is a long way off this pace...

Wei Yi is at 2698 now at age 15 (!!). He could literally become a super GM tomorrow.
How old is her kid? 10? Not exactly a landmark age.
Retire for your kids, ok, do it when they're babies, that's when they take the most time.
Of all the possible political/criminal deceptions going on in this world, y'all talk about Judit Polgar using her children as a "cover story".

Well duh. It's obvious Judit had kids to give her a convenient out someday.
Maybe Fischer just "acted" like he was loopy, so he wouldn't have to be embarrassed by the Russians?
What makes Yifan achievement more remarkable is that she has done it by putting her rating on the line by playing other lower rated females.
After more than a quarter of a century Judit Polgar is no longer the highest rated woman in the world. A truly historic moment in chess.
It would truly have been a wonderful thing if these two great players could have played a "World Championship" match against one another. I wonder if Polgar could be tempted out of retirement for such a match? I know she mentioned if the offer was right she might be interested, but it looks like nothing ever eventuated...
Can Hou Yifan reach 2700, and if so, when? Will she eventually eclipse 2735 (Polgar's highest rating), and can she ascend to World #8, or higher, and potentially challenge Carlsen and co?
You are going by 2700chess but here's the official FIDE page:
And btw Yifan will surely get over 2700, cut there is no way she can challenge Carlsen. Now there's no need to get butthurt over what I just wrote, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NY4G-wgqQYM) because it's not sexist, it's purely statistical. Yifan is 2673 while Magnus is a much higher 2862! Carlsen is so much stronger than Yifan! And Carlsen has also won all their matchups:
When it comes to the other top GMs, well, Yifan has 0W/3L/5D vs. Caruana, 0 games vs. Grischuck, 0 games vs. Topalov, 0W/0L/1D vs. Anand, 0W/1L/0D vs. Aronian, 2W/0L/4D vs. Giri, 0 games vs. Kramnik, 0W/3L/1D vs. Nakamura, and 0W/0L/4D vs. So. Wesley So is #10 in the world and is still 89 elo points higher rated than Yifan Hou, which is a very wide margin. In conclusion, I believe nearly all evidence points toward the idea that Yifan Hou cannot compete with the top 10 players. Oh and another thing, the #8 player is 110 higher than Yifan, so that's a long way away.

no. her rating is stable if you see open tournaments.
This is misleading. In 2005 Judit was 2735. Yifan has a way to go to the the highest rated ever. I think she is terrific and will achieve that. She is playing top man grand masters and holding her own.
Why is it that female players are not as strong as their male counterparts? Has anyone done research into this topic?
