How can I motivate myself?

Alright, so I've been inactive on this website for the past few weeks and I feel like I'm getting worse at chess each day. I'm currently trying to get back on track but somehow I can't motivate myself to do it. It's hard for me because I've been inactive and I just somehow *can't* get back on track. also I've been feeling tired a lot tired lately because of all my school work and chores to do. Are there any tips and tricks for me to stay on track with chess? Thanks.

I go through phases where I'm less interested in chess than usual. I always play better when there's nothing I'd rather do than play chess, and play a lot worse when I'm distracted or just don't feel like it, but play anyway out of habit. In those cases chess almost feels like an exhausting task. Maybe you're going through something like that, where you still love chess, but you are finding it more like a task than something fun to do. When that happens to me I just do a lot of puzzles or watch video and things like that to stay somewhat sharp, because the desire to play always comes back.

Watch "Pawn Sacrifice". You will regain your inspiration back.

I had a hard time liking Pawn Sacrifice. I'd seen to many Bobby Fischer documentaries and read so much about him that I just couldn't picture Tobey as Fischer. I think they did a good job portraying Fischer's eccentric side, but I think that Fischer also had a bit of a pleasant side that they didn't show, which would've made the character more likeable in the movie. Just my thoughts, I sure many will disagree. The WC set in the movie was perfect though.

I did see Queen to PLay with Kevin Klein. It was in french but pretty good.

I wish I had that "problem" so that I could permanently part with chess and then use my hours more productively.

I had the same issue.  What fixed it for me was getting over some health issues.  I have lost 67 lbs. in the last almost 4 months, and am motivated to study agsin.  I had to feel better about myself, before i was able to get interested in a game again.

Things I do to motivate myself:

shopping spree at the mall

a short vacation to Tahiti or Maui

have a manicure and pedicure

have a nice Starbucks latte

Skip work

take naps

If these don't work the first time around, I'd do it again till I get my mojo back. wink.png
