How did I get 34 in puzzle rush (survival mode) when my 5-minute was 25?

Its amazing. I was solving 1800-rated puzzles and doing stuff I thought only people 500 rating points higher than me could do. On other sites, I have always been much better at puzzles than my blitz or bullet or rapid rating, but not this much I thought! Is this an error with the website or did I actually do it?

Shaymon_khawas

May be the puzzles were easy

Burgermaniac

are 1900 rated puzzles easy?

Burgermaniac

for a person like me who is rated 1400 in bullet

I think you actually did it! happy.png If anything, I think the survival puzzles are slightly tougher and require more calculation than the 5 minute ones (but they seem roughly the same difficulty).

If your 5-minute score was 25 (solid score btw grin.png ), then how many did you expect in survival that is NOT timed? Probably a few more than 25 correct because I hope you took longer than 5 minutes to reach that score wink.png

34 is a great survival score for you, but I find it believable if you had a record of 25 for 5 minute puzzle rush.

Keep learning chess and improving and keep up the motivation that helped you meet cool milestones like this personal record. Nice going happy.png

This seems like it should be very normal range distribution...my 5 min vs. survival is 23 and 38, and it's been fairly routine for me to score in the low 30s in survival (in fact my average is over 30 and has been as high as 31.5).

Then again, I am never any good at fast time controls (I have a "2 phase" blunder-checking method that I am so mentally accustomed to now after 5 almost decades of chess that I really can't *not* do it), but routinely spent 30-60 minutes while eating breakfast on survival and I think many people that play survival still rush their moves out for no particular reason wink.png.

I think most anyone that can score in the mid 20s for 5 min can get mid to high 30s or even hit 40 on survival if they keep trying.

Leave online puzzles as soon as possible. I have lost respect for low rated puzzle and moreover i don't even try to solve high rated puzzles. I always get panic whenever i see tricky puzzle in the game. I think i have lost the feeling to appraise the puzzles because i always think this way: who cares about this puzzle when i can get new one in the puzzle tab. See, how i sound like. Maybe you don't have that attitude. Than that's good. Bye

yeah my survival is 42 and my 5 min is 33

sndeww

my survival is 48 and my 5min is 36 so it's not that weird.

25 is way better than 34, not the other way around. I may be an old man by chess.com's standards (I'm 30), but I'm not slow and senile just yet. My bests are 24 and 46.

Burgermaniac

wow thanks everyone

Keep trying it. I have 5 min 25 as well, but 40 on survival.
