How Do I Get A Rating

Sort:

I just started playing in January and made the decision to step up my game and purchase a membership. Being new there is much I don’t yet understand. I hope this isn’t to dumb a question but what exactly is a “rating” and how do I do about getting one?

Rating is like Elo on chess.com. You can get some by playing games. There are different ratings for different time controls.

Rating is a numerical representation of your chess strength. The more games you win the larger this number will become. If you lose games this number goes down. Most beginners start below 1000. For the Blitz time control the highest rated player on chess.com is GM Hikaru with 3276. You already have a rating for daily games (510). If you want a rating for other time controls (rapid, blitz, or bullet) you have to play a game with that time control format selected.

You have to buy a rating along with a membership. I am currently running a special on ratings where I will rate you 1 point for every dollar you send me. Act fast, as this is a limited time offer.

You get a rating by playing games. Your membership unlocks tools like puzzles which will help you improve.

Welcome @JJR1940 happy.png

You don't need a chess.com membership to get a chess.com rating. All you need to do is play rated chess games (although a membership does have many more features which can help you improve).

You haven't played any "live games" yet, so you don't have a live chess.com rating. You've played 6 Daily games so far and your rating there is 510.

Look for local chess clubs or tournaments in your area where you can play in rated games.
