How do I make the transition from Daily Chess to Rapid?

I play daily chess almost exclusively. The other day I decided to meet up with a chess group and play my first OTB games in many years. I was totally blind. Looking at 3D pieces and not having good board vision under the gun, I felt completely lost.

So I decided I needed to play some rapid games for a while and limit my daily chess. I am struggling with it. I know the rating scale is different for rapid, but I feel I should be doing much better. I watch chess videos, read everyday, and do lots of tactics, but my vision really sucks.

Any ideas on how to beat the curve and improve at Rapid (and later blitz). I try to play 1 rapid game (30 minutes each side) each day. That's all I can think of.

rapid helps in the sense that you will start and finish the game in one go but only more otb will help with otb

the vision thing is very real and i struggle with this if i am out of otb practice

if you can play more casual otb games this will help if the other games are rated

as far as rapid is concerned i find the 30 minute games here on chess.com too short (though i am not a huge fan of daily)

i play 45 minute or even 30/30 at another site and this makes a huge difference as many times i will use 20+ minutes to get out of an opening

if you are playing one game a day make sure you follow it with a thorough analysis afterwards

but my coach always tells me that being able to go over otb rated games at classical time controls are what really help his students the most

use the rapid to get out of the “daily game” patterns but only more otb will help otb

also- if you can train and practice (go over master games, chess book, etc) use a real board and pieces at home

this also helps alot

The only real difference from Daily chess to rapid chess for most people is that the game all takes place in more 'real time' so you have to be at your computer (or whatever device you play on) for the length of the game contiguously.  The game itself doesn't change.

If you are someone who spends an hour analysing every move you make in Daily chess then obviously the jump to Rapid will be a big one, but if you just make your moves in Daily chess within a few minutes of opening the position then the speed of the game is similar to rapid and in rapid you don't need time to remember what you were doing in the position last time like you have to sometimes in Daily chess if it is 3 days since you last made a move.

start from classics 60m >45>30>20>15>lastly 10 minutes, as ur move and thinking will become much faster. takes time, lot of effort and losing, of course, but u will learn much more. sometimes I watch other players played rapid for half an hour everyday to learn their tactic and strategy and also any notation games that player could win less than 20 steps. u will need a year to accomplish this practice

Would it be reckless for me, a beginner, to jump straight from Daily online to 15|10? I had a similar experience to the OP, getting thrashed in 4.5 games in two hours. I'm thinking 15|10 would be good to approximate that pace, and that anything over 20 mins per player would be quite hard to find time for.
