How do I quit Chess?

I tried Checkers, Penpalling, and Philosophy and Science forums to replace Chess and Chess Forums. Chess Addiction is like Smoking. After quitting, you try one stick or one game, you return to old habits.

you tried the “swallow a spider to catch a fly” approach. flea powder works best.

Kasparov had same problem. He retired from chess and join Russian politics in 2005.  But he keeps playing Exhibition games.

Why to quit? Probably your problem is blitz, not chess, so stop playing blitz and begin to improve your rapid games.

Chess is taking over my life. I want to do other things.

Here's a new idea.  Restrict your friends to those between 9 & 12.  This hasn't become a statistic yet but one never knows.

I have quit chess, but last year I decided to play a little bit and realized that I had increased 200 rating points and that made me want to study again!

(apparently I got smarter or more lucid with age, more clarity of thoughts).

When I think of 'quit' chess this is about 'stop studying chess' ... Playing without commitment once a week online (or play for 3 days, stay 3 months without playing, then play for 4 days, etc ...) For me this is already quit ...

que true question is: "why stop play chess?" or "why play chess?"

Who are we? Where we came from? where are we going? What to play against Modern Benoni? etc...

Best way to not do drug or drink... is to not do drug or drink?!

What makes chess addicting is when you played a brilliant combination. Eureka! The feeling of"I'm brilliant". Ego level feels like I'm great!

Lion play card and checkers other day... compare to Chess... they are kidster game.

Here's a surefire way to quit chess. This is what I would do. Hypothetically, of course...

First, take your games very seriously and be very arrogant as if you're the best. Then play opponents and lose over and over. It helps if you lose games you clearly should have won, but you made foolish mistakes and mismanaged your time. Get angrier and angrier after each loss, becoming increasingly more baffled that you are losing to nobodies when you are the best. Your rating will drop slowly but surely, adding to the rage. But do not stop playing until you get a win (shooting for two wins in a row is even better). Finally when you get a win to break your tremendous losing streak, look back and realize how many games you played in a single sitting, how many hours you wasted, and how far your rating has sunk. Retire on that bitter win and convince yourself that chess is a waste of time and that you should be doing more productive things with your life.

I think I will quit chess the same time I quit the Earth.
