How do I win K+R+R vs K+R endgames?

I should clearly be winning but it is hard to do much more than draw if my opponent plays well.

With optimal play you can't really force a trade. I'm asking because in my last game, I was up a rook and a pawn, but my opponent had a passed pawn, and I was forced to trade my passed pawn for his. I eventually traded rooks but at that point I ended up having to sacrifice my rook to avoid my opponent winning. If anyone could give my game a look I'd appreciate it.

I would keep my rooks connected and try to squeeze the king in a corner. I think that sooner or later your opponent will have to either face mate or trade rooks. If he's not using his rook to block checks than just roll on him until he's forced to.

Sorry if my post was vague, I'm on my iphone.

Thanks Slow_pawn and bb_gum234. Here is the game I was referring to. I just realized I didn't need to force stalemate, but if my opponent hadn't blundered I would have had to draw.

I know this doesn't address your question but 5.Nxe5 fxe5 6.Qh5+ is absolutely crushing. If your opponent defends their e5 pawn with f6 you should always see if Nxe5 followed by Qh5+ is viable.

I didn't realize there was pawns on the board as well which changes things a little. I thought you meant as an exercise simply K+R+R vs K+R which is a little different. Can't check the game unfortunately.

Shouldn't be that difficult. Just play around a bit, keep your king safe and make sure not to hang a rook. Offensively look for opportunites to trade rooks and/or to checkmate the king with the stairway method. It will be hard to defend against both of those ideas.

Looked at the game, and while I can't answer the question, you could avoid the situation by keeping pawns on the board,I saw that after the mentioned passed pawn trade you had hung one of your queenside pawns. My advice is to not worry about this sort of thing until you stop hanging stuff. Then again,I'm only rated a couple hundred more,so I might not be an "expert" on this. So maybe take this with a grain of salt.

Now, seeing the game, I realize there was never a K+R+R vs K+R situation on the board ...

Thank you all very much. Your analysis was very useful, much thanks.

I don't have too much experience in this endgame, but I know an easy way to win it. Simply position your rooks on the neighboring lines and keep slowly moving them towards the enemy king. Eventually you will reach the king and he will have to defend with a rook, after which you can exchange one pair of rooks and easily checkmate him with the other. The game could go like this:

Try using an engine to see what you did wrong after every game it helps improving knowing what u do wrong in positions
QueenCon

the main reason after looking at your game I could see was because you king was bad and in threat of back rank mate if one rook left the f-file
