how do you break out of a pattern?

My rating fluctuates between 1300 - 1350, There is a pattern, I will drop down to a 1300 and then something clicks and I start winning again, maybe 6 or 7 games in a row. I then gradually work my way back to 1350 again. Then I start getting hammered and lose 6 games straight and drop back to 1300 again. I am pretty systematic in the games I choose. I rarely play anyone who is more or less then 20 points of me. So I will be at 1300 and when I start beating 1320 level players my rating goes up. Pretty soon I am up to beating 1340 - 1360 level players and when I start playing above that, the balance shifts and I start losing and my rating begins to drop. And then I start losing to the 1320 - 1340 level players where just a week or two before I was winning those games. I then go back down to a 1300 again. This has been going on for more than a year. Ideas?

I have the same problem, in 2015 I was 1457, but now I'm only 1318, I seem to win a few then lose a few, but the ones I'm losing to are rated lower than me, so I get hammered in the ratings, but sometimes I am winning against higher rated opponents so then I claw back the points I have lost, my problem is inconsistency

I have two foolproof ways. Sometimes one works; sometimes the other does.

1) play more, the hits will come
2) play less, if you can’t swing straight, you’ll never hit the ball
3) have a whiskey

Stop caring about your online ratings, the swings are far too magnified and not necessarily representative of skill. On any day if you play enough you can win or lose 100+ pts. If you HAVE to care about your online rating then just pay attention to it’s progress over MONTHS at a time, you can’t look at it daily. Nobody ever has a linear rating improvement in online blitz chess. It will constantly bounce around but your average rating over thousands of games will be more consistent

my coach told me to set my online games to -25 to +200 and try to play higher rated players as much as possible then analyze them after- win, lose, or draw

I try not to play the rating but the position. I saw already players 500 or 800 points lower rated getting great positions against me but losing because a silly blunder.

"... In order to maximize the benefits of [theory and practice], these two should be approached in a balanced manner. ... Play as many slow games (60 5 or preferably slower) as possible, ... The other side of improvement is theory. ... This can be reading books, taking lessons, watching videos, doing problems on software, etc. ..." - NM Dan Heisman (2002)
