Guys read

I said whenever I play e5 I run into the italian game, not when I play e4

Meaning I'm black, not white

Yep, don't oblige it with e5 is pretty much what people are trying to say...

i almost quit playing chess after too many italian games. i was told i should continue playing it because it was sound and could be played at any level so by the time i became a strong player i would know if extremely well. you tell me what is better, becoming an expert at a game you have come to hate or playing something completely different?

I think it doesn't matter what opening you want to play, just stick with it until you get good result, and then you may try to move on to the other openings cuz if you win a lot with this opening means that you can probably learn more from the other opening. The thing you have learnt from the previous opening would not disappear and if you find that you don't like the taste of that opening even you have 100% win rate you can switch to the other one.

I played approximately 600 games of caro kann and then I switch to the sicilian cuz caro is truly a boring opening eventhough it's so easy to equalize or in some structure minority attack on the queenside is very promising and easy-to-follow game plan. But I just hate doing same thing every game

i just came to understand that i was never going to be a truly competitive player so why should i care if i am 1300 or 1500 or 1800. none of these will change my enjoyment of the game. i am currently about 1500 (do not look at my rating since i have not played a rated game on this web site in almost two years) and i play whatever strikes me except the london or the italian. i might be 1700 if i focused on one thing but how much does this change anything in my life? i would no longer be playing chess

So true, everyone should play their favorite opening, no matter it's a dubious gambit or having 0% win rate of that opening. if one truly wants to improve at chess, studying opening is not something necessary, just reviewing your games and trying to understand your mistakes should be the most important thing to do.

GiggleNap

nobody was talking about studying openings. if you play the same opening 2000 times you will become familiar with the middle game positions that arise and you will know what to do without thinking too much. if you play many different openings you will be less familiar with the positions and more likely to make a mistake. it is logical that you will do better if you study or not. if you want to improve your rating just play the same opening over and over until you want to jump off a building

I experienced the same problem a month ago. Try the English opening or Queen’s gambit. Find them on YouTube and you’ll have more fun. Good luck.

If you are playing e5 after 1. e4 as black, and if you like the thrills, you might wanna take a look at Alexander gambit or Lucchini gambit.

Also, there is always the petrov defense: 1.e4, e5 2. Nf3, Nf6

landloch

Play the King's Gambit.

don't play 1.e4 or 1...e5 (I don't know if you're asking as white or black)

You're rated sub 700. Stop playing nothing but speed chess and dig into the game a little. You'll probably find it less boring.

1104 rating is not sub 700 dude

And I would rather play blitz than have to wait for 5 minutes every game because my opponent decides to stall or lose because he decides to cheat. And there is nothing to "dig in" in these boring positions

MLGgetslappedbruh

Play the scandy baby!

I thought this post is about an opening which is called the Italian game. But I never said anything to judge how people play. In fact, I agree with what you said and I just carry out a universal way to actually improve. if you don't want to improve at chess that's fine I am not forcing you to do so you can still enjoy playing chess.

A fun opening is the Scandinavian (1.e4 d5). It's not to theory heavy, offers black a fun game, and if you really want to get crazy there's a fun gambit line (that's not dubious as far as I'm aware) that goes 1.e4 d5 2.exd5 Nf6! and if white tries to hold onto the pawn with with 3.c4 black gets fast development!

  • my brother got 346 to his score. now his score is 456.
