How exactly do you download Stockfish 6?

For those who have done so.

Are you speaking from experience? Because of course I tried that--I think you need a platform for it, like maybe ChessBase or something.

I have loaded a previous version of Stockfish into Arena3.5 (free download , Windows). Enigne and GUI are often seperate components.

Correct. Stockfish is just an engine; to run it you need a program that's compatible with UCI engines.

Yes...you'll need a proper software. I remember of Chessbase, Lucas Chess (but you can't use infinite analysis on it), SCID vs PC...

Yes you need a platform/client or whatever you want to call it. I use a Mac and I use Stockfish with HIARCS, Shredder, and SCIDvsMac. Each program should have a tab or preference to add an engine. All the programs I use come with their own engines but I like the Stockfish engine so I always add it as well.

Stockfish doesn't come with an interface. It's just an engine. You can run it in a terminal, but you preferably would want a nice chess programme to run it in. It's a UCI engine, so make sure the chess programme supports such an engine. SCID vs PC is great. I think Chessbase is as well.

If you decide to download a free graphical interface, just make sure that you download it from the original source.
