how good (or bad) were you when first started playing?

I want to know where I stand in with other people because I feel that as much as ive played I should be a bit better than I am now. I think i was way worse then the average person when first starting out. I started out playing the pro chess app at about 450-500 uscf elo. Does anyone have any games to post or thoughts?

1 month from when I started playing I had this game. I saved it cause at the time i thought I had played well and it was worth saving. I look back now and am wondering what i was thinking at the time lol

cpow24 at what rating do you play Chess Pro now? Often these programs have difficulty simulating weaker human play, but they are a great way to practice. BTW I play Chess Pro at 1600-1700 level.

I can play neck and neck against the 1500-1550 uscf. And this is after playing 1-3 hours a day every single day for nine months. I think a true beginner can be expected to have a rating of about 650 or so but that wasn't the case for me, I was much lower.

I had this app for a long time and recently started training against it. About 6 months ago my match score against 1600 was usually 1.5-1.5. Now that I have started again, usually my match score around 1900 to 2050 range trainer is 1.5 and some of the draws are because I usually get into better endgames (like K+Q vs K+R) but since I don't know that Endgames that well, I usually mess them up (lot to improve on endgames). about 2 years ago (when I started), my rating was USCF 900 (because of a perfect score against 300s), but my level then was about 500. Now my USCF rating is 1676 (peak 1699), but I think my level is a little bit higher than that. 1750, Maybe? Especially after one of recent tournament where my performance was 1791!!! But my rating only went from 1633 to 1658...lol.

among the best in blitz, above average otherwise, with tendencies to accidentally and undeservedly win a tournament game against much stronger players

And about your game, you won luckily and I would say your level was about 300. Which is great considering you are able to play well against 1500. And this forum was posted 11 months ago, so I guess you are even better now and are improving faster than average! Nice Job! You are growing as fast as a bullet!

looks like I turned this into a more active forum! lol

Thanks for the replies also I was wondering at what time controls do you play against the computer? I keep my games from 5 to 10 min. if I go over 10 I consider it a loss and now a year later I'm playing chess pro at 1700 - 1750 strength.

I think you will get more out of playing human players. I saw your win and i don't think any human would play that way. That is just my two cents from a guy that is probably not as good as you are now.

I dropped to a low 900s and now I'm in the low 1000s after about two months. Is that... really bad...?
