On easy he seems to be about 1100
How hard is (LCP) Little Chess Partner?
I just blew it away on hard by playing 1. f4 and converting into a classical setup. He played the Bf5 setup... I will show you as much of the moves as I can remember (without annotation)
Now, this game is ALMOST just like we played it. I threw in Kh1 and ...g6 at the same time, which doesn't make sense, but during the game Kh1 and ...g6 were both played. Besides that, this is the way the game transposed. Trust me, a five minute checkmate.I've had the same experience on "hard" as well and I'm only a 1200 player who regularly loses to 1300+ players. I haven't annotated any of the games but have screen shots of my 6-7 wins where you can clearly see it's set to "hard". It seems to fall prey to a supported Queen attacking a King-side-castled King. I don't get it either.
I wonder if maybe even though I set it on hard, it didn't "boot" up hard settings? And BTW, what queen fork?
Okay, I redid LCP and I saw that there was a setting to play it on hard, but then you have to click the button below that---sorry, it was on easy! :-)
Oh please guys, come on - people who can consistently, or at least a few times, beat LCP on HARD come talk to me!
However, one point of note: Bird Brain , you have a point - there was one time I beat it and I couldn't understand the CPU's reasoning - I was sure it was set to hard, but it didn't 'feel' like hard, you know? I came to the same conclusion - that it didn't quite 'boot-up' all hard parameters or something.
I do thank Kupov for your insight - that gives me an idea of hard... I'm estimating in the high 1900s at least... or so I'd like to think!
Anyways, please keep the comments coming, they're helpful when on track.
I will try to post at least one of my winning LCP on HARD games in FEN format. Give me until tomorrow for that one.
Try to set the setting's depth higher than 5, maybe 100 on hard. I believe not anybody, especially beginners, can beat LCP, but a more advanced player can.
I'm (presently) a 1300 player who beats it on hard when I don't try to play blitz speed. I've got about 10 screen shots of the final wins. I'm too impatient to notate the games, sadly. I have never won a game against it without my queen, however. In fact, once I promoted two pawns just for fun just to have a screen shot of three queens while LCP's king cowered in the corner. I have not tried as black. That's the next project.
Edit: Oops! Didn't realize I'd already posted on this thread about this. Sorry.
it doesn't play remotely close to a 2000. It won't make obvious tactical blunders on hard (like hanging a piece), but if I try I can easily out-calculate it and its positional play is very bad (it wastes time a lot particularly). My OTB rating is 1775 and as long as I don't blitz out my moves in a couple of seconds I can beat it easily.
To me it seems like:
Easy - 1200 (I win about 99% of games)
Medium - 1500 (I win about 50% of games...)
Hard - 1800 (I have never won....)
I once put Little Chess Partner on Hard against Chessmaster for PSP on it's hardest (ELO 1850) once with white and once with black. In both games the result was a draw.
Hey all -I just beat LCP again on hard - I've only done it less than 10 times, and 2/3 of those times was reviewing the same opening and having LCP react in various ways at different stages in the same game.
Before I start declaring myself the king, I better ask the pertinent question - just how hard is Little Chess Partner anyway?
I mean, if one had to give it an elo rating, in what range would it be? If it's over 2000 then I might start feeling pretty good about myself...
Does anyone know?
