How I succeeded in chess

here i would like to share how i experienced metioric rise in chess success from the starting rating of 1400, as everyone gets, to a sudden 1500 within a year.  it was by using the colle system as white, and making sure that i always sat on my hands before making a move.  This is so important for you  young players.  Concentrate, dont rush, use your time on the clock, and just before you move, sit on your hands and take a final good look.  And play the colle as white.  Or the Zukertort.  As black fianchetto quickly and get king to safety.

Meteors do not rise. They fall.

I don't know how much time you have to sit on your hands during a 3 minute blitz game but your blitz rating gives evidence of your success.

i dont know if there is an up or down in space but i guess meteors look like their falling past us from our vantage point.  Silly statement "meteors do not rise, they fall.  more accurate to say they rocket onwards from their original source

100 points is not an explosive rating jump unless you have a girlfriend.

There's nothing wrong with the Colle, but it's not imperative to play it.

I'm too old to sit on my hands, but I understand your desire to use all of your available time. It IS important. A sanity check is also important.

DoktorVonStrudel

i'm beginning to like the london for white .... black often seems confused against it.  unfortunately no grandmasters play it so there must be something wrong with it.  it is supposed to be an immediate equalize for black but i'm starting to get good attacking chances with it

DoktorVonStrudel

my friends say the London is for gurls only

I am a struggling 14 year old who is a 1200, who feels very out of place commenting on a 1700+ forum, but I am totally stuck, and I feel worse when people say that 1400, is the average. Even though I am 14, I still don't seem to be improving, and I can't figure out why,

try to find your mistakes and try to play better moves in their place.

learn how to win easily won endgames.

Learn general principals to apply to certain areas of the game.

Perhaps some lectures on youtube might help:

IChess.net has some good ones (and some people like Igor Smirnov)

How do you study chess? What are your materials? How long have you been playing chess? For the meantime, ignore bullet as that won't improve you.

DoktorVonStrudel

dear StephenCorelli

the best way to get better is to play the Colle system as white,

DoctorStrange

The best way to get better is to pay attention to your games

The fastest way to improve on where you are now, is to reduce your mistakes. Simply looking before you leap...sitting on your hands as the op says...will improve the outcome of your games.
