Hi every one. I'm kinda new to chess in general, and i just wonder why was my game declared a draw in this case? surprise.png
I still had plenty of time, i was methodically walking his king to a corner to mate him, when all of a sudden : DRAW.
So i m kinda sad but mostly i want to understand, what happened there?
thanks in advance <3

Stalemate. Black is not in check and has no legal moves, so that is a draw by Stalemate.

Qd7 would have been mate

The black king is safe but can't move, so your opponent can't do any legal move and that make a draw. This happens often in end-game where you're clearly going to win, and if you want to win this kind of position you always need to take care of this

A sad case of stalemate. Would recommend pre-emptively looking at the en passant rule as well.

It's a pity that the rules are designed that way.

There is no lenient rule for newbies. You have learned it the hard way, and always remember - you must ensure that the opposing king has room to move about so as to minimise the risk of landing a stalemate.
