No they don't.

what does make a move brilliant then?

Avatar of InsertInterestingNameHere

if white just trades the rooks you enter an endgame down two pawns, and both those pawns are advanced

it is still one of stockfish's top lines. just because it is bad for black doesn't make that move bad, just a lot of the ones that came before it.

I’m not saying you’re bad for playing this. Heck, I probably would have played it. I’m just saying, it doesn’t deserve a brilliant. “One of stockfish’s top lines” and a move that goes from +2.8 to +4 doesn’t deserve brilliant.

its brilliant in my heart.

Generally speaking, it has to be a sacrifice, but there are some rating determinations as well and might be some other criteria I'm not aware of.

I think when I watched the video about Brilliant moves they have to be the Best move, hard to find and move the evaluation of the game. I have had brilliant moves and followed them up with blunders. Sometimes it might be the first move in a combination and wont be brilliant if the combination isn't complete.

There used to be a different definition of brilliant when it was released initially. That changed to being a sacrifice. It still has to be a good or best move.

29. Qd5

Oh, I see little guiea pig also saw 29. Qd5. I think it looks like it wins for white. How can black defend f7?

Incidentally, I think 8. e4 might win for white.

Black can’t. If they try, snap the rook off. Best move is Kg7 lmao

You played a good game with the right geometrical patterns. But the finishing move is fairly easy to find. Almost obvious. Because the checkmate is just right there - backrank + bishop cover. It's a basic pattern.

For the brilliant moves you need more complexity and depth. Keep it up!

i saw a same idea and it was considered a brilliant move in one of my friends game, its probably because there was a way to counterattack and gives your opponent adavantage

So white swaps off rooks, wins the bishop on d6 and white is a bishop and two pawns ahead. So the rook move wasn't brilliant because it loses very quickly. Never mind O.P. Better luck next time.

Avatar of InsertInterestingNameHere

actually it doesn’t win the bishop, because taking the bishop hangs backrank mate, but it does hang f7 with check, which is still very bad

Avatar of Optimissed

It looks like it wins the bishop .....
