How long does it take to improve?

so 3 months ago, at august 16, I started getting into chess, and I had no idea how to play it at all, but I started learning, and I have been unhappy with my progress, and I think I can improve faster than I currently am. I went from knowing nothing about chess to playing at a 600 rating  on 15/10 time control on this site in 3 months. Is it something that must take years to just get to something like 1800 and above, or can I improve faster. I know I should train tactics, read chess books, and just play chess, but I want to know more about what else I can do. and I also want to know how long something like this takes. I want to get to 1800 rating, and I do not have a coach; I am doing this alone.

All you have played is blitz, bullet, and rapid.  And you're wondering why you aren't improving?

"... In order to maximize the benefits of [theory and practice], these two should be approached in a balanced manner. ... Play as many slow games (60 5 or preferably slower) as possible, ... The other side of improvement is theory. ... This can be reading books, taking lessons, watching videos, doing problems on software, etc. ..." - NM Dan Heisman (2002)

Depends on a lot of things - talent, how hard you work, opponents that are available to you, … Many players never get to 1800.

How long will it take? Perhaps a lifetime.
