Well, "usually" is a strong word, because "usually" people don't get to 2000 no matter how long they play.
But I'd say 5 years is a reasonable goal.

I learned how to play chess in elementary school and up until the age of 18 I never really played that much. Me and some of my friends would play OTB games at my house but we didn't know what we were doing or practiced at all. In the summer of 2018 I started playing a lot of online chess and now I am rated around 1460 on the 15/10 games. I also was rated 1467 USCF after playing some over the board games near my home. How long should it take for someone of this strength to reach 2000?
