It does look better. Sleeker. Fancier.

I tried ... I Really Tried to navigate V3, and I even had some success.

But when, after awhile, I ran across something called "old chess.com," I clicked my heels together 3 times (there's no place like home) and found myself  Instantly back in Kansas.... (big sigh of relief).

Sorry, Erik.  (Can we still be friends? Wink)

I don't really know anything about code, so all I can see is what I know. And all I saw was that it looked dark instead of light and things were in big square blocky things and the font looked less typefaced. Maybe it's the bees knees, but until it is the only option, I really don't see any great advantage to it.

Although I have only looked at V3 once; I agree with motherinlaw & DrSpudnik.  What I want to know is...  will V3 be more user friendly for those who primarily use their mobile app?

It will be optimized for mobile, yes.

And, best of all, it looks much better and is faster to load and use!! :)

Them scroll bars for messages and stuff only work on phones, not PCs

Sorry but I prefer the old chess.com above V3

I haven't had that problem and they work fine on both for me.  If you haven't already you should submit a bug report when you encounter the problem on the PC by clicking the little bug icon.

They're tiny and a real pain to both find and use, but they're there.

It must be me then.

Does anyone have the instruction manual on how to use them?  For me, they scroll the wrong way and everything gets highlighted Money Mouth

Today, I was surprised to find that I can finally access V3 as a free member.

So far I'm very happy with it. The new design and layout looks nice and is easy to get into; there are some excellent new useful features for free users like me; and chess 960 is live at last! With V3 I can now access all my game history in the archive, not just the last 30 days, and I can even sort through openings. This can be a convenient alternative to the game explorer which is still limited for free members (and still doesn't have all of my games), although it is now possible to search 3 moves deep (both white and black, so 6 individual moves) instead of just one.

As a free user I also have access to slightly more complete game statistics with graphs which is great.

There are three things bugging me on V3:

1. When downloading pgns on the older site, the files come with the usernames of the players and the dates in which the games were played. On V3 the pgn files come with the real names of the players instead of the usernames and they have no date... I'm not sure if the lack of date is a bug or by design; I strange the lack of it. I very much prefer the pgn numenclatures of the older website; it's much more convenient to sort through and identify when a large amount of pgns have been downloaded.

2. As I'm typing this message on V3, I'm noting the lack of option to preview the message before posting it. This is a very convenient functionality present on the older website. I strange its absence here. Unfortunately, no spellcheck either.

3. I couldn't find a match in live chess 960. I create a challenge then wait and wait. Seems like nobody is interested...

Browser compability:

For the record, I'm using the K-Meleon web browser in stock form to navigate through chess.com V3. By "stock form" I mean unmodified and barely tweaked. I typically use a highly modified version of Firefox (for security and privacy reasons) for all my browsing, but it tends to crash the functionality of some sites. Unfortunately, chess.com V3 is one of those sites. So for those who might complain that V3 is buggy or doesn't seem to work without issues, make sure that your browser is not screwed up and is compatible with modern web technology (HTML 5 and such) in the first place.

There ought to be an article or forum post dedicated to the new features of V3, clarifying about browser software requirements.

@kkl please use the bug report option and report any bugs you find or feature suggestions.  We will definitely get them in the queue.

termleech, will do. Thanks for the suggestion.

Which reporting method is suggested for mobile browsers? I have some I should probably report but the bug submission process in v3 doesn't work

They have finally added adds

I can confirm that it isn't working for me either. When I click on the bug symbol, nothing happens. I checked with three different browsers: K-Meleon, Firefox and QupZilla. On the QupZilla browser in stock form, v3 is just as buggy (if not more since I can't even type a post on the forum) as in my highly modified Firefox and in the Firefox Developer's Edition 43.

maybe they need a button for reporting bugs to do with the bug reporter button

The only place I've had issues with it not working is on a mobile browser. Has worked fine for me in Aurora  (Firefox developer version) in the past.

I forgot to mention that the Firefox Aurora I used also had a few tweaks done by myself. That might be the cause of the bugginess. But Firefox Aurora is typically released in alpha stage so it is prone to bugs by default. Not the best browser to judge a website.

I just made a fresh install of the latest stable release of Firefox (42) and it's working fine with v3 (except for the bug report). The live chess interface is pretty smooth.
