I recently got stuck in V3 by accident. It took a while to find my way back to V2. V3 totally sucked. It was dark, hard to find anything and when I tried to comment in a thread by quoting someone, it didn't post. I really don't see the attraction of it.

It's like anything - V3 looks & feels slightly different, and because you can't find anything that you used to know where to find in V2, you feel cranky and just switch back. V3 finally gave me some nice features that I quite liked, so I stuck with it, and now I use it for all of my Admin stuff - the only reason I still use V2 occasionally is that there are spam blogs that only show up under V2, and once the launch goes public, that's not going to be an issue any more.

V3 is here  I use it every day. I haven't used V2 in months. Our "public" launch will be this month.

Well goody goody goody for you.

Sorry - I can see how that may have come across as somewhat more antagonistic than I meant it to be. I just wanted to say that I didn't like V3 very much when I first checked it out either, but as I've gotten accustomed to it and new features have been added, I've come to like it very much, and I hope that you will too.

I'm using v3 constantly, but a few bugs remain.

Try setting your theme in V3 to "Classic" - it will feel a lot more like V2.

And this is me quoting... so hopefully that was fixed!

My account switched itself to V3

then 4 days later switched itself back?

Using v3 since late 2015. v3 operation feels a bit clunky at times, dim icons do not help. The interface looks a bit dull and not very crisp. I'm mostly on the PC. It works overall alright but nothing to get excited about. Some things I feel got more complicated compared to v2. Some things I find annoying, but overall not annoying enough to go back to v2. I thought of switching to v3 because v2 will be shut down eventually and then I will be forced to adopt v3. I could have lived with v2 quite well. I'm just neutral to v3, certainly not an eye opener in any way or an improvement of usability. Not a good progression from v2.

I hope that at least the backend works better for all the stuff one does not see. Otherwise there would be no need at all to make the switch, in my opinion. As I say, I'm mostly on the PC.

need an edge around the boards in tactic trainer and online games like in V2. If you are red/green colorblind it is a very hard thing to see when the board runs into the background. I guess you would have to be in my condition to understand.

Thanks for your feedback, Tom - have you tried the Classic theme in V3? It applies the colour scheme of V2 and is certainly a lot brighter than the default theme in V3.

And my understanding is that it's exactly that back end maintainability, scalability and extensibility that has been one of the main drivers for replacing the current V2 platform. It's taken a really long time, but there's been a lot of piloting and bug resolution to try and ensure as bug free and seamless a transition as possible.

If you could use the "Report a bug" feature to send the dev team that note, they'll definitely take that on board - is it a problem across all themes or just some of them in particular?

Having just read the latest comments of people who've transitioned to V3, I now hear a voice in my head whispering:  "Be afraid.  Be Very afraid."

P.S.  Another sign of trouble:  the new trophies look pretty ghastly.  What's up with that?

I have heard in good confidence that work for V4 has already started

2035 is when they have ironed out all the bugs and V3 goes live. There is a very good chance V4 will be ready before V3

david, thanks for the heads up.

Yeah, I'm already using a custom theme, green & white board and classic pieces. It's pretty much the scheme of v2. Somehow it still does not look quite as sharp as v2 used to.

In fairness, I should say that v3 is surely not worse than v2 in usability. It's different in many places, some choices are certainly debatable. But it's a chess website after all, and functionality is very good.

Just saying, for example the interface of chess24.com is just horrible, in my opinion. I tried their live less for a bit but got disgusted with the look and feel of it. I'm not a premium member there, and probably never will. So all in all I do like chess.com v3, even if I do not like each and every detail of it.

My V3 theme is broken. I cannot change the backround, leaving me with this ugly shade of yellow. :/
