How many active members on Chess.com?

Heck, by your definition, I don't think I would qualify as active

I'm not disagreeing, but calling it a lower bound when the definition is so broad is funny to me.

As for people online right now, it's hard to know how many of those 300,000 will never come back again, the perpetual revolving door of curious beginners and non-players

And I'm sure there's some pareto principle involved here where 80% of the games come from 20% of the players sort of thing.

The problem is that the 26 million is not consistent with other data.  If my rank is 350000 and there are 26 million active Rapid members, my percentile would be 98.7, not 97.3 (Note that the Leaderboard says players, not active players.  Are we talking about two different number?).  Also, when I add the increments in the distribution curve, I get 13 million.

If I go by the data in the Leaderboards, there are about 45 million active members (out of 90 million total members).  I think that the number is about 25 million.  Anyhow, we now have a range.

More than one person has the same rating as you do and are in your percentile group.

To get a percentile value you have to have at least 29 games in a pool in the last 90 days and I'm pretty sure that to show on the Leaderboards that is also required.

Here are the numbers that I obtained from the distribution curve

Although I may have the same rating as others, we will have different rankings*, and because of round offs, a few of us, but not many, will have the same percentile.  However, I don't think that would account for a 12 million difference in the total.

According to my rating, I just crossed 99 percentile in rapid and my rank is like #171071, so I guess total active members would be like 17 million 

I don't know what you mean by "false accounts," but the definition of active players is that they have played at least one game in the last 90 days.

There are six active members here. The rest of us come and go.

i suspect most "players" on this site are actually bad bots. I've seen some "titled" players hang pieces like crazy.

It's true there's lots of bots on this site. As for titled players hanging pieces, idk what to tell you, probably misclicks?
