How many moves can a Master see ahead from some specific position?

I would like to understand how a master's mind works. What's the difference between a casual chess player mind and a master mind?

And here is a variation that I've got from the movie "Searching for Bobby Fischer". This variation was spotted by Josh's Teacher (Bruce) in about 2 sec. Can you spot it?

I saw all the way to the knight fork, but then I missed that black queens with check.

I'd say the only way of seeing things so fast is experience. If I'd look at this in a game I'd really have to take my time on calculating most possibilities.
Yet this i not a regular position so I don't know how experience should work here.
My guess would be lots of hard work and brilliance. I mean, 2 seconds, really?
I wouldn't see it if I took as long as I wanted.
