HOW MANY POINTS FOR A LOSS - 30 POINT DECREASE SEEMS EXESSIVE

I played a game last night and lost.  I was a bit surprised when it subtracted 30 points from my rating.  I played another game and lost and 24 points were subtracted from my rating.  I thought it was generally 8 - 10 points you would lose for a loss.  Any help is appreciated.

The site uses the Glicko rating system that includes a measure of rating uncertainty called the rating deviation (RD) value. Players with few games in a pool or large gaps in recent games, will have higher RD values and see larger rating changes after games.

As more games are played that value decreases as does the magnitude of rating changes.
