How not to get discouraged?

Hello!

 I'm seeking to improve.

I used to play chess for years but fell out of it for awhile. Life got in the way and I didn't have anyone to play with, so I just kinda forgot about it.

Now, I'm trying to get back into it. It's a bit discouraging but trying not to give up.

When I first joined this site, I believe my ELO was somewhere in the 1100s, iirc, but it's dropped all the way down to the 700s.

Part of that is me resigning whenever I think I am in a losing position. I know I should stay in it until the end.

I think I am just making more careless mistakes overall. Sometimes, I'll see a move I think looks good, but a few turns later, my position is weakened. I think I have forgotten how to see ahead instead of what is on the board now.

I'm at least trying to do a couple of puzzles a day.

Any tips on improving without getting discouraged?

I would learn new openings and opening traps to keep it fun.
