How not to stall

Hello, I have an issue. Many times when I play, I find myself stalling when the position is hopeless. I know this is not nice, but I can't help doing that. I wish I were banned, so I'd never play a game that makes me feel angry rather than amused. But while this doesn't happen, what should I do to avoid stalling?

Well, you just joined and it looks like you did okay today.

Just resign and admit defeat. Maturity is always best.

What do you mean by stalling? Actually playing on? Or just letting your clock run?

Playing on when down material is stalling.

It is not. Stalling is when you play a game, you are a piece up, then your opponent neither resigns nor plays, he just lets his clock go down.

Here is the official definition by chess.com:

Either muster your determination and try to play on or resign. Both are within your ability.

No. You should never resign until the very end. Your opponent may blunder a draw or even lose. Playing on and never giving up shows strong character.

Nobody wants to muster determination or "dig deep". It's a board game.

You may not have the determination, which explains why you have 114 losses and only 84 wins!

No: I don't have the motivation to care or try. Which is how 99.999999% of adults are. Of course, if one wants to display strength and determination, they don't sit down to a children's board game.

99.999999% of adults don't have the motivation to care or try? Sounds like a you problem. meh.png

...But it's true. You honestly think the average person walks around thinking about their chess progress? .......

450 points in a month? You seem pretty obsessed with chess to not "try" or care about you progress! Or maybe you just like to use chess.com as a form of social media?! cry.png bruh...

Exactly. You know there aren't any adults walking around even thinking about this, let alone caring one iota about progression lol.

If you're an adult who doesn't care an iota about your chess progress, then why play the game? Entertain yourself in other ways bro!

Yeah, there's something wrong with them.

You've played a game of chess almost every single day except since you joined. You have 450 points. You are obsessed. But no, you don't care about your progress. If you don't care about your progress, then why has chess consumed such a large part of your life?! I don't know what else to say. bruh...

Playing chess is a sign of mental illness. And you are an "active USCF member seeking rated online play!" I think you played yourself.

Resign, or just throw away all your pieces and match your king up the board to get checkmated. Creativity!

They need to grow up and act like adults, maybe? Sitting around playing GI Joe with children and being competitive about it is pathetic. It's a sign of mental illness. Why do you think everyone here in America just makes fun of chess players?

Actually, children are the minority in most non-scholastic tournaments. I have yet to see a normal open tournament with more children than adults playing.

And then I saw what a bunch of tryhards and no lifers this game was filled with. And that USCF only uses a 5 second delay because they LOVE time scrambles. No, I would definitely never sit down and play a rated OTB game at this point. Nor will I even play online anymore. Total waste of time that could be spent on everything else in life that matters.

Yeah, I agree. Chess is such a waste of time. But posting on the chess.com forums isn't! happy.png

I do? Thanks for telling me. Anyway, back from La La Land, sometimes I slip, make a mistake, lose a piece and regret it. Guess what, it might happen to my opponent, too. Does that make sense? So no, I don’t quit and many, many times my opponent has slipped as well and I have won the game. Those hard won victories are some of the most rewarding victories.

But you don't win anything. What's rewarding about it?

What do YOU get from arguing on online forums? With your form of cost-benefit analysis then you should be gone!
