How often do you look at the clock?

I’m curious about clock strategies when playing blitz. I ignore it during the first part of the game. Often, when I look at it I’m a minute behind in a five minute game.

A typical win for me is outplaying my opponent positionally and tactically, ending the game in less than 40 moves. A typical loss is losing a drawn out game in a winning position due to time pressure or a timeout. Sometimes, of course, I get outplayed and lose to a better player that game.

How often do you look at the clock?

How do you avoid losing track of time during a think?

I tend to play blitz almost like bullet because thinking in chess is not my best ability, I rely on my intuition that have been trained for 20+ years

I’m going to have to make myself look at the clock more often.

That would create a sense of urgency that I’m lacking. I might try that.
