Why won't America go metric?

It could be part of the ridiculous "American exceptionalism" that politicians in this country throw-up about.

Because they don't need it.
Don't the brits still use stones and ounces and stuffs as well?

marcosite

Maybe you could stand on a box & I'll breathe in?  Otherwise I've no idea what the score could proove  Cry

That map kinda stands out.  Would you rather be metric trysts? ...you know, like the rest of us?Wink

marcosite

Nooo.  I have no idea of stones though I get ounces, to a point.

I think it would be good to go metric, marcosite:)

when will uk use kilogram instead of stones and pounds isn't this the same question.

I think it is an illusion to get the same units for everything in the world.

You should feel proud. Than means Napoleon never got into your country.

Both Metric and Imperial measurements are used here, depending on what is being described and by whom. Age also has a part to play, with younger citizens preferring Metric, whilst older citizens generally prefer Imperial. Many people are fluent in both and can convert either measurement quite easily.

No. I think you must be confusing chess with high jump.

[I am, of course, presuming removal of more obvious confounding factors, especially gender and age].

Thanks NewArd & Doggy! :)

...& time.  Time has to not be a factor, regardless of stature.  Undecided

Sure are we talking about chess here? *ehem*

SJFG

Somewhere near the 6' 1.5" mark.

Being well built can sometimes be an advantage because your opponents can be intimidated.  A well timed glare at an opponent during critical games is something all tall chess players use every now and then. Wink JK

6'1.5" is what my doctor measured me up at, but it's still possible that I wake up a hair past 6'2".

marcosite

I'm guessing SJFG is putting a real life spin on this.  Most of us don't dwell on opponents height because...well, they are seated & it's hard to judge. Undecided

I'm 6'2"
