I think it is an illusion to get the same units for everything in the world.

Both Metric and Imperial measurements are used here, depending on what is being described and by whom. Age also has a part to play, with younger citizens preferring Metric, whilst older citizens generally prefer Imperial. Many people are fluent in both and can convert either measurement quite easily.
I'm in the 6'1.5"-6'2" range (186.69 CM-187.96 CM), to maybe even a hair above 6'2". I'm mainly asking this to see if there's any possible correlation with height and Chess playing skills.
No. I think you must be confusing chess with high jump.

Being well built can sometimes be an advantage because your opponents can be intimidated. A well timed glare at an opponent during critical games is something all tall chess players use every now and then. JK

6'1.5" is what my doctor measured me up at, but it's still possible that I wake up a hair past 6'2".
