How the fortress got destroyed
This is no fortress, it is an exchange of blunders.
Agreed.
"In chess, the fortress is an endgame drawing technique in which the side behind in material sets up a zone of protection that the opponent cannot penetrate. This might involve keeping the enemy king out of one's position, or a zone the enemy cannot force one out of (e.g. see the opposite-colored bishops example)." - Fortress (chess) - Wikipedia
tip: analyze the game and look at your accuracy before you post something. that way, you won't look like a fool
Moral: Don't defend your king too much.
I agree. Key to success: never castle, leave your king in the middle of the board, and open up the position!
This was when I was an amateur chess player. I wasn't able to recreate the original game, but the fortress in the original game looked like this:

So watch this game below. Notice White's fortress, then scroll down below the game for more text.
So as you can see, White was focused on defending way too much and didn't focus on attacking too much. Black took advantage of this by capturing White's rook and checkmating the king. This was an actual game I played (not on Chess.com, in real life).
Moral: Don't defend your king too much.
Other Moral: Too much of anything is bad.
Note: You may think White doesn't defend too much, but notice the pawns in front of the king. They don't move at all during the game, as is the queen. White only used the knights, bishops, and the pawn-turned-queen which all were captured.
