it was not repetition.

Was it time?

SpacePodz
Draw my time out and insufficient material.
Nennerb

Yes, 'twas time. Your opponent ran out of time and there is no way for you to win, so it's a draw.

SpacePodz
Black timed out so he can’t mate and white only has a king so he can’t mate. Making it a draw.

Well, thanks. Today i learned something new. I assumed i would get the win cause he timed.

SpacePodz
It’a a strange rule and one that I forget a lot. I’ve had games where I thought I would win from time out and it was a draw.
Bumvinnik

I was wondering if they did that here 🤔 Good to know.

50 move rule

Cynac

The rule is not that strange if you think about it.

SpacePodz
It’s just weird to get use to. In most games, your time runs out you lose. But yes it does make sense.
Cynac

Yep. Chess is a game played on the board. The time element is artificial, and is mainly there to stop one player from taking forever (if literally was allowed to do so, could never be beaten) and to produce an even playing field. So, while you cannot claim any sort of victory if you have used up all your time, you cannot "lose" if the position on the board is absolutely impossible to lose.

Think of playing through a game score-sheet at draughts (checkers). All of Blacks pieces come off the board, and then the sheet says "Black wins".

Tommy_the_detective

you drew because one side had timeout and one side has to few materials to checkmate
