How to change currency when buying membership

Sort:

I was trying to buy a membership, but the website wants to charge me in shekels instead of USD. Is there any way to switch the settings on this?

I believe that the currency used is tied to the country flag you have chosen.

Perhaps you had another flag chose previously?

If it didn't change after you changed your country, I would try clearing your cache and cookies and restarting your browser. They probably have recorded a preference for you.

If that doesn't work, write to support@chess.com for help.

I did have another flag previously. I'll try those suggestions. Thx

I'm pretty positive that the flag has no bearing on the prices offered.

Had you been connecting recently from somewhere that uses that currency? If so, you might need to give it time to register where you're at now. If that doesn't change, you could contact support as mentioned m

I was, but I think I gave it more than enough time to adjust. I guess I'll contact support.

It used to change the currency every time you changed country. I tried it a bunch of times over the years when people asked questions about how much things cost in their currency.

I think I was only looking at major currencies, however, like the Britsh Pound or the Euro.

Regional pricing is a relatively recent update but I'm pretty sure that flags don't impact it at all (which makes sense otherwise it would be easy to get a different price)

I guess it's possible it used to provide the US price but adjusted for the local currency 🤔

The Indians are paying more. It makes it hard for them to gift memberships. Is it because of currency conversion? Or maybe it's currency exchange. The dollar is high so others have to pay more? Economics is behind everything.

I believe all gifts are US rates. I don't know for certain the rationale but it can prevent reselling memberships by selling gifts to other members at lower rates than they can get themselves but higher than local costs for those areas with regional pricing.

You'll need to contact Support using the option in the menu about that.
