I'm not revealing any secrets here Innocent: read some books, get a coach, investigate on your own, annotate games, play your computer, play on-line, watch some videos, play live tournaments, join a club...

How to get better at chess, simply practice, try new openings and study them including end moves. But if you think your going to get fair play on Chess.com , then think again. This place is a joke. Chess.com set these rules that are non exsistant, players ignore the rules nor do they care.

This server is sad and pathetic with the amout of cheating and hacking going on.

Names to stay away from: amimobi, lazarus, _Yahweh_, richkid, Petrosv_

aoe2dotnet, Gabriella92.

All cheats as far as Im concerned. And yes there should be naming an shaming since these cheats dont care about any rules here. Sick of all the cheating on this site and chess.com do zero about it.

why cheat at online chess. To brag about your wins in the forums??

Not so pointless: you could play using odds. Depending on your level, you could play a rook up, a piece up, etc.

in regards getting a coach, is it possible to have an "online" coach? or were you referring to an "in person"? I am relatively new to online chess and would really like to improve my chess game. well... if you can classify what I do here a chess game.

Yes you can get online coach or you can find someone to coach in person.  Both is possible.  You also can get someone to coach you online personally by using skype or etc

I forgot to mention that nothing is free.  You need to pay a fee.

I have an online coach, it is possible.

I've not tried coaching; I've read quite a few books, watched videos and so on.  The thing that seems to make the most difference by far is playing a lot of games, preferably against people rated up to 100 points above you. You'll lose a lot, and if that annoys you, you will get better quite quickly.  If it doesn't annoy you, it doesn't matter much to you, so you'll probably stay around the same rating.

You don't necessarily need a coach but often an objective person looking at your chess is better then yourself because most people are repeating the same mistakes and don't grow in rating / as a player etc.

If you study on your own I can advise you to study endgames, tactics, positional (strategic) chess from books like:

- Logical chess move by move

- 5334 Problems, combinations and games

- Silman's endgame manual

Also there are lots of video sources available on youtube, St. Louis Chess Centre, Kingscrusher and Matojelic are excellent to watch and learn from.
