Play lots of chess.
analyze your games.
study postions for extended periods of time to work on calculation,
endgames are important to know.
also just spend time playing chess and having fun. that is how i did it
in 8 months i gained 300 points, so you could probably do the same
Actually there is an easier way. Just Grab your Laptop an:
1. Abandon your work/family/life to live in the bathroom(The one with the short curcuiting-dangling lightbulb and the roaches). (Be sure to bring one roll of toilet paper)
2. Play chess uninterupted for 8 months. UNITERUPTED
Do not speak unless to scream and belch at any unwelcome visitors. Deficate, Play drink coffee repeat.
Simple.

yeah well unless you become a 2700 plus GM it is hard to make a living off of chess...
I never said you could make a living playing chess, only you could gain rating after a few simple steps. And Grand Monsters make lots of money sure..
But you're forgetting the homeless, park dwelling chess hustlers I bet they make more money on a sunday then you do all week. They live life free!! Free Chess Birds !! !
Or if you like workin for the man.. every public school has a designated Chess teacher.
You could discipline the children by holding their king in the corner with your queen as you march your pawn to promotion. Making them watch.

Another update: ( I am StevenBailey13, I'm trying to get my old account back after a friend hillariously closed it) I have now reached 1353 and today beat someone who was 1612 as black! Nice huh?

Think of 1400 as Carnegie Hall. How does one get to Carnegie Hall? Practice, practice, practice.... :) Good luck.
2400 is Carnegie Hall.
1400 is Billy's Burger Bar.
