How do i even find a tournament to play in?

If you are in the US, go to uschess.org and become a member so you can play in rated tournaments. The website has a tournament search area. You can also probably Google tournaments in your area. If you are not in the US, then I don’t know.

Show up about an hour early and register (the tournament info will tell you when to show up to register) or you can register earlier online or by other means. They will post who you are paired against when you get there. You will be “unrated” your first tournament. You need to notate while you play unless it’s a blitz tournament.

thank you so much. do i need to buy anything aswell?

like i have my own board but i dont have a clock.. they are expensive

Clockwork_Nemesis
For the tournaments I’ve been to, it is not required that you have a clock but they usually don’t provide a clock for every board. So if you and your opponent don’t have a clock, they might have one you can borrow from the tournament director. Usually it works out where someone has a clock you can use.
