Heisman is completely correct.

You have to make a conscious effort to go through that checklist on every move. Since you're playing online and in private, you can write those steps out on a piece of paper and talk your way through them on every turn.

After a while, it will become almost instinctive, but only if you make it so. As they say, practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice does

This mental checklist - checks, captures, threats - is definitely not happening on every move, even when I play Live Chess Standard - 15 10, or longer.

That's a good idea, to have that checklist next to my computer, to help me to stay focused on what I need to be thinking about, until it becomes a deeply ingrained habit.  Thank you.

Let's not forget that 'real chess' usual time controls are over 2hrs per game... I played this weekend for my club, and despite a comfortable 90'+30'+30" time control, I managed to make many oversights during the ~2h45 game.

Usually, people build their thought process in those long games, and the habits translate in their rapid games.

There are some simple rules that can launch you from 800 to 1000.  I find it is truly hard to slow down, given the dopamine pathways of blitz and bullet that just carve pathways.  I say this because your talent lies there in a way, its now your flow.  Its a shame really, we should be sitting across from a better player making eye contact and discussing moves, but this age can get your learnign curve trapped around 8 to 900 easily.  Im there really.  But I found one simple rule that can get you further... endgames....  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_DTzmk5JVM    as soon as you have a piece ahead, lurch forward and trade queens and get to the end game.. game.  and study that.  learn the square rule and find the importance of king placement and having just that one more pawn.  Its kind of everything.  Hope this helps.
