For the games that you lost, where did you go wrong?  Even the games you won, you probably had some bad moves.  If you can pull one lesson from each game, you will start to see an improvement.

If you don't have chess coach to train you, then you need chess books or chess DVD to improve at chess. You need to study chess to get better.

Play slowpoke chess tournaments in real life.

That usually induces a bit of thinking.

Seriously.  This dude knows his stuff.  Trepanation will add 300 Elo day one.  Day one.

I enjoy "slowpoke chess" but noticed that some people have returned with ??? (yes, three question marks) replies.  When I look at their profile, I notice that they are playing over 100 games at once.  I try to limit my games.

A chess analysis engine would help too.

I have Arena still and have loaded Stockfish and Rybka 2.32a , but Arena seemed clunky and crashed when I tried to analyze my Chess960 games.

These days, I just use the free Chessbase Reader available at http://en.chessbase.com/pages/download, and have loaded my chess engines there. What also saves time is buying .cbh books (commonly Everyman Chess) and playing the moves on Chessbase Reader rather than setting up the board and pieces repeatedly.

Start with endgames.  Learn the K + B +B vs K mate, K + N + B vs. K mate, and the rest.  Then work on pawn endings, rook endings, and work from the endgame backward.  That's how the Soviets did it.

Play at least 3 games a day and always review your work. Notation helps a lot! :-) good luck Dave

slow chess, chess  books, analyze your games, endgames study. but if you want to stay good for months, you will get rusy, everyone does after long periods without playing.
